How to play

Classic

Take turns drawing a line between two neighboring dots. Draw the fourth side of a box to claim it and take another turn. When every line is drawn, the player with the most boxes wins.

Bandit Mode

Same rules, plus stealing. If you own all four boxes around an opponent’s box, you steal it. Steals swing the score by two points and can set off a chain of more steals. Boxes on the edges and corners can never be stolen. Bandit Mode turns off Auto-Complete Chains so you control every capture.

Chains

A chain is a row of boxes that each have three sides drawn. Whoever opens a chain usually hands all of it to their opponent, so controlling the long chains is the key to winning. With Auto-Complete Chains on (Settings), finishing one box in a chain captures the rest for you.

Questions

How do I unlock new colors, boards and titles?

Earn trophies. Open Trophies on the home screen to see each trophy and what it unlocks, then choose your rewards in Settings → Appearance.

Why don’t my trophies show up in Game Center?

Make sure you’re signed in to Game Center (iOS Settings → Game Center) and that Use Game Center is on in BoxBandit’s Settings. Trophies earned while offline or signed out are saved on your device and sync the next time you’re signed in.

Which trophies count in Two Players mode?

Only “Pass and Play”. Everything else counts in games against the computer, because a shared device can’t tell which player is signed in to Game Center.

Why can’t I get “Dead Even”?

You can only tie on boards with an even number of boxes: 7×7 (36 boxes) and 9×9 (64 boxes).

Does BoxBandit need the internet?

No. Everything works offline. Game Center sync is the only feature that uses the network.

How do I reset my stats and trophies?

Deleting and reinstalling BoxBandit clears everything saved on your device. Achievements already sent to Game Center are kept by Apple.
